What is a Labor Doula?
A labor doula is a support person. They support the birthing family before, during and immediately after the birth. A doula is trained to provide physical & emotional support in the home, hospital or birth center. A doula eases the transition into the birthing environment and gives the birthing person & partner the added comfort of additional support throughout the entire process. A doula uses evidence based information when informing the birthing family, so they have the tools and knowledge they need to make the best decision for their family.
If I have a partner, why do I need a Doula?
“Childbirth is an experience in a woman’s life that holds the power to transform her forever. Embrace it with trust, strength, and love.”
– Suzanne Arms
“Birth is an opportunity to transcend. To rise above what we are accustomed to, reach deeper inside ourselves than we are familiar with, and to see not only what we are truly made of but the strength we can access in and through birth.”
– Marcie Macari
“Pregnancy and childbirth are natural processes that a woman’s body is perfectly designed for. Trust in that design and in your own instincts.”
– Ina May Gaskin
“Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers—strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
– Barbara Katz Rothman
What Doula’s Provide
Labor Doulas empower birthing women by giving them the information and tools to make informed decisions about their birth vision/goals.
Packages: There are many options to choose from to fit your birth vision and financial needs. I’m flexible to meet your needs. More info can be provided during your FREE consultation.
Prenatal & Childbirth: All packages include prenatal visits and of course 24/7 labour & delivery service during your special time. Immediately after the birth doulas usually stay 1-2 hours or until everyone is settled.
Postpartum: All packages have at least one postpartum appointment, to make sure everyone is settled in, questions are answered, breastfeeding is established and mental health is addressed.
Birthing pool: If this is a part of your birth vision, there are packages that include the birthing pool or you can add it on the side if needed. It’s a great tool to have to labor in or birth in or BOTH!
Company name!
Goddess: Every woman deserves to feel like a goddess when they’re bringing forth new life into the world. They should know and feel how truly powerful their bodies are, and what they are capable of. They should feel supported, encouraged and empowered while also being informed of all their options during labor, for her own needs, as well as her baby’s.
Prana: Means ‘breath’ or ‘lifeforce’ or can also be used to describe ‘center’. During birth the breath is so important, more than people realize. You focus on several different breathing techniques so you can breathe through every contraction, every sensation. Our Breath is our lifeforce and as you use it to push your baby out, your also bringing forth a new being that will take their first gasp of air and create their own breathe, their own lifeforce, their own prana.
